When I buy a smartphone, I want it to be with me till I go
six feet under. Just kidding. But seriously, smartphones cost a lot and to be
honest, anyone paying so much for a luxury like iPhone expects, and rightly so,
nothing less than a couple of stress-free years, let alone me. But when
something not in my plan happens, like my screen shattering to pieces similar
to Tom Berenger’s mind in Shattered, I’m only faced with 2 options: either I
could get it fixed and pay load upfront or buy a new iPhone and pop even more.
Let’s be honest, who am I kidding here? Neither of the
options are okay for a guy who just spent a fortune on a phone just two months
ago. Similar issues have always been haunting users. Not anymore though. If you
have AppleCare+, getting your screen fixed gets as low as $29. That’s like 70%
off!
Recently, Apple announced that AppleCare+ customers, who had
to pay at least $79 for a new screen and $99 for a plus-sized screen, can now
get their screens fixed for less than 30 bucks, provided they have iPhone 6 or a
later model.
I would like to remind readers here that AppleCare+ does
cost $129, but the benefits, to me, far exceed the price because for $129, this
plan covers you for two years of warranty and up to two repairs within the
subscription period. For those who don’t have this plan, the charges of fixing
a regular screen alone costs the price of subscription, that is, $129. And for
a plus-sized screen, you may have to pay about $149.
In such a case, the better option will be to pay a visit to an
iPhone repair service provider. Third
party iPhone service providers can
get it done under $100 in most cases and if you got an iPhone older than 6,
then it’s an even more viable option. I for one don’t like being thrown back to
the Renaissance Era because I can’t wait days to get my hands back on my phone.
But honestly, if you do have an iPhone 6 or newer phone,
coupled with AppleCare+, opting for official iPhone repair service is the saner choice.
